Can you imagine working/living in a place where women are looked down upon and you were limited rights as a citizen? Kabul was one of those places. In a country like America where we have lots of freedom, we should count our blessings. Women have the freedom to work, become educated, make decisions about marriage. Other places are not this way.

Eight missionaries moved to Afghanistan to help others in need and to share the Gospel through their kindness and good deeds. They helped the poor and gave hope to many Afghan refugees. They also enlisted the help of sixteen faithful Afghan citizens in their organization. Before September 11th, these twenty-four individuals were taken under control by the Taliban and thrown into prison. Their family members fleed the country to escape imprisonment. The twenty four who were left behind in captivity stayed under the Taliban control for 105 days.

Kabul 24 is the story of these God-fearing men and women who endured abuse and imprisonment from some of the world's most extreme. Once I got this book in the mail, I couldn't put it down. It literally left me speechless. While I read this story that was rarely proclaimed through the news, I felt chills run up and down my spine. I felt their fear and abandonment as they prayed for God's presence through this horrific ordeal. Miraculously, God always came through in different forms. Readers who don't know God will learn what a mighty God these believers served.

If I could sum up this book with one word, it would be speechless! God is amazing in all of the circumstances that we go through in our lives. I don't know if I could be as brave as these individuals were when they stood up with honest answers to the interrogators or the Taliban. They were persecuted, nonetheless. And this book is a lesson for all who serve Him of those who are faithful enough to go out in to the world to preach the good news. I loved this book so much and I can't WAIT for the movie to come out!

Happy First Six Weeks, Jake!

                                      It seems like it was just yesterday that we were all anxiously awaiting your arrival!              

Those final six weeks seemed to go by so slow as we waited for you to come!

Now six weeks have passed and it's already gone by so quickly!

You are everything we hoped you could be!  You are a happy, healthy, and sweet little baby! You can smile already, coo at us when we talk to you, and roll over from tummy to back. You are holding your head up better and better by the day. Wow, you amaze us!

You, Hunter, and Chloé are all blessings! I am so happy that God gave us you!

                         I can't wait to see what else God has in store for you! Happy first six weeks, Jacob Bryan!

What is happening around my home……..


In My Kitchen: we have the items out to make pumpkin pie. We are talking about pumpkins this week in our homeschool. We're discussing "Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater" for our literature rhymes.

With Our Marriage: A new baby always limits our time together for awhile. We're working on trying to make more time for each other with our busy schedules.

With The Children: School continues. We've made it through the first two weeks already! Woo hoo!

Around the Homestead: We are still working on making this new place our home and becoming settled here.

In My Inner Man : Still working on being a Godly woman and mother. I'm still searching on how to be the best kind of mother and wife that the Lord would want me to be. Everyday is a new day and I continue challenging myself to be that Proverbs 31 woman!

First Day of Homeschool

As you know, we started homeschooling Kindergarten with Hunter this year! He wanted to learn to read so we decided to get a head start! Here was his first day of school!

Top 10 Time Wasters for Women
The Telephone.
You can waste hours of time talking and gossiping on the telephone. Not only is it time-wasted, but this is usually when your children get into trouble, or be naughty because they realize the phone has taken mother’s attention away from them.

The TV.
I would rather live life than watch it! Teach your children to ‘live’ life, rather than watch it go by. Remember that the day is for work, the evening is for relaxation. A good rule for your home is to never turn the TV on during the day. (It’s still a time-waster in the evening too!)

Reading novels when there is work to be done.
Don’t be tempted to read a novel during the hours of the night, only to wake up too tired to cope with your children during the day.

Self-Pity and Worry.
Thinking about yourself is a deadly time-waster. You can’t adequately nurture your children or bless others while you use all your emotional energy on yourself.

Lack of organization.
If you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it. It is important to have long-range goals, and a goal for each day.

Lack of Discipline.
Do what has to be done, not just what you feel like doing. This develops character.

Trying to do everything at once.
Tackle one job at a time and finish it completely. Then start another job. Clean one room at a time. You don’t have to get everything done in one day.

Inability to say, "No."
Stay focused. Don’t get sidetracked. Your first priority is to be a wife, a mother and homemaker. Everything else comes second.

Too Much Stuff.
The more "stuff" you have in your home, the more you have to clean. The more gadgets and ornaments you have, the more you have to dust. The more toys your children own, the more you have to pick up. They only need two or three at once. Put the others away. Continually ‘de-junk’ your house. Keep only what you need.

Inefficiency.
E.g. When cleaning up, don’t carry one thing to another room and then come back for something else. Put everything for one room in a box, and then take one trip to that room. Save on unnecessary movements.

Doug Fields' book gives the reader a fresh outlook on life. Realistically, most people are stuck. We are stuck and unable to change bad behaviors or patterns. So we end up carrying a burden of guilt on our shoulders. And no matter how many times we've tried to change, we can't find a way to do it. We are too prideful and we figure we are already stuck in our ways, so why change? The author provides ways to begin anew with a fresh start!

Readers from all walks of life will learn that they must not only seek God's help but also cooperate. By reading this book, the reader will be challenged to start over. The reader is challenged to put guilt from past sins behind them. They will learn how to overcome anger, rejection, and discouragement from others. The book will challenge them to move on and take that first step toward a better life.

What's wonderful about this book is that people from all walks of life can read it. It's great for someone who just needs a boost in their walk with Christ. And it's great for someone who wants to make that commitment but feels their sin is too great. If they can't get past that stuck feeling or their guilt is too great, they are going to get a big sigh of relief in knowing that it's possible to transform your life.I recommend this book to all those want change and don't know how to start!
